(pronounced "you are ell) or Uniform Resource Locator, it is the Internet
equivalent of an address. How do they work? Like other types of
addresses, they move from the general to the specific (from zip code to
recipient, so to speak). The URL usually contains the domain name of
the website or the IP Address.
Q:What is a domain name?
A: A domain name is simply a
system for providing a human-memorable name for a particular computer on the
Internet. Properly speaking, computers have numerical addresses, sort of
like a phone number. The domain name system provides a translation from a
name to the appropriate number (sort of a directory assistance for the
Internet). For example, www.ford.com is much easier than 198.108.89.236 for
humans to type and remember. DO NOT pick a domain name with NUMBERS in
it. We cannot support domain names with numeric characters!!
Q:Where should I go to get a
domain name?

Spider Marketing recommends that you use the services of Network Solutions,
as they are the most trusted source for domain registration service that we
can recommend. They offer great customer service and easy online
account interface to help you maintain your domain name accounts. It
is important to keep in mind that Spider Marketing will only change the DNS
record on Network Solution accounts. You can use other domain
registers, but it will be up to you to change your DNS record.
Q:What is DNS?
A: The domain name system is a
distributed database arranged hierarchically. Its purpose is to provide a
layer of abstraction between other Internet services (web, email, etc.) and
the numeric addresses (IP addresses) used to uniquely identify any given
machine on the Internet. It permits use of names instead of numbers to
identify hosts (usually servers). Names are much easier to remember. It
permits a server to change numeric addresses without requiring notification
of everyone on the Internet, by simply retargeting a name to the new numeric
address.
Q:What information do I need to
change my DNS record?
A:
Regardless of which domain registration
service you use, you will need to provide the location of your website.
That location is found in the DNS Record or Domain Name Server Record.
The DNS record provides a logical directory to your website and is how your
site can located on the Internet. Two domain server address are required for

Spider Marketing to build my website?
A: After you fill out and send
in the website activation information, providing all the information is
accurate, it takes about 10 working days to complete and test a PWS
Marketing website. Inaccurate information is the major cause of
delays, please make sure you submit the correct information.
Q:How do I use Monster Controls?
A: Monster
Controls is a web based user interface that allows you to manage your
website features, such as email accounts, autoresponder and user accounts.

Q:Can I make changes to my site?
A:
Yes, your website is yours to do with as you
like. Please keep in mind if you delete or damage the file structure
on your website and would like the files restored, there is a $50 fee for
this service. We recommend that you backup your website before making
any changes.
The PWS Marketing Website is ASP driven and all of the links are dynamically
loaded from a page called urls.asp. The base page structure is HTML,
